The Forest Service posted a timber sale for the Hoosier National Forest to be finalized on 7/02/26. The sale named “The Holly Sale” is located n.w. of Indian Lake In., they are selling 430 merchantable trees [ 90,912 bd.ft.] the top 3 species for removal are White Oak>Black Oak > Yellow Poplar. This comes on the heels of the sale they finalized yesterday, which was named ” The Davis Pine Timber Sale”
This sale was in Crawford Co. and will remove 1,929 merchantable trees [ 344,037 bd.ft. ] made up mostly as the name suggests of Eastern White Pines. There was no map provided for this sale or the acreage involved, but one can surmise that this harvest is a large clear cut
I do not have a good working knowledge of how the F.S. posts its sale results, I have been working off the Forestry Exchange site and they do not post this info for National sales. If someone can direct me where to find that info I will start a price per bd.ft. comparison with the In.D.o.F. timber sales.
The In.D.o.F. finalized a log sale at Clark S.F. on the 11th, this sale was listed as a “timber” sale ,but involved logs already harvested. The logs were made up mostly of White Oak. The 13,327 bd.ft. sale generated 2 bids and was sold for $8,887.00 or .67 cents per bd.ft. The losing bid was $ 2,898.50.
Forever Hopeful,
